Health Benefits of Matcha Tea

What is green tea? Green tea comes from the plant camellia sinensis. Green tea is not oxidized, unlike black tea, so there is little alteration of the natural properties and flavor of the tea, resulting in increased retention of antioxidants, specifically EGCG (epigallactocatechin gallate). Matcha is a special type of green tea:

Matcha’s unique growing process, harvesting techniques and consumption method enables it to provide superior health benefits compared to regular green tea.

Shade Grown:

Three weeks prior to harvest, Matcha is shade grown (covered by canopies) which slows down the photosynthetic process, prompting a buildup of chlorophyll pigment, and stimulating increased L-Theanine amino acid levels.

Consumed Whole:

Matcha is then steam dried, stone ground into a powder, and ready for consumption, utilizing the entire tea leaf and all of its nutrients.

Because Matcha is shade grown and consumed whole it contains higher levels of antioxidants, amino acids, and caffeine, compared to traditional green tea leaves. As a result Matcha provides benefits to both the body and mind.

Mind

Matcha sharpens mental acuity and heightens the senses. The combination of energizing caffeine with calming L-Theanine promotes focus and clarity of thought, generating a sense of confidence and positivity. L-theanine combats the ‘jitters’ and ‘crash’ typically associated with caffeine, allowing the mind to use energy more efficiently.

Body

Matcha’s abundant antioxidants speeds up metabolism and works at the cellular level to scrub harmful free radicals. The antioxidant capacity of Matcha is five fold more than blueberries, cleansing toxins and rejuvenating cells.

The positive effects on mind and body leads to an overall healthier version of yourself. Drinking Matcha is a lifestyle that strengthens your ability to do more, providing both energy and focus to exceed your potential.

HISTORY

Matcha was made popular in Japan by the venerable monk Eisai

On a retreat in China discovered the power and secrets of Zen Buddhism and Matcha tea. His gift to the culture of Japan was the transcendence of Zen practice rooted in the cultivation of tea culture.
